This poster was produced by the Blinky Bill Brigade.
A group organized in response to the then Moomba Committee’s decision to make Mickey Mouse (an American icon) King of Moomba.
This was seen as a U.S. imperialist position as was the choice of Ugly Dave Grey who played the jester, an English comedian.
Blinky Bill was selected as an appropriate “republican head of Moomba” instead.
A C.A.W. member, Sally Weller wore a Blinky Bill costume and was inserted into the Moomba parade. A special accompanying
float was built in the back yard of a member’s house and was driven into the parade. Something that could not happen today.
Another C.A.W. member, Phil Pinder dressed in a rat’s costume and also went along to agitate and take the focus away from Mickey Mouse.
